Course Description

Course participants must complete the workshop below, either virtually or in-person, with Smekens Education in order to participate:

The Ignite to Write Conference is a dynamic, two-day event designed for K-12 educators to explore and implement best practices in writing instruction. Through breakout sessions, participants will learn how to plan comprehensive writing units that incorporate all three modes of writing and spiral standards-based instruction throughout the academic year. Educators will gain strategies to deliver engaging mini-lessons, assess student writing using the 6 Traits of Writing, and support students in preparing for state assessments.

By the end of the conference, attendees will be equipped to provide meaningful writing practice across all subject areas and confidently integrate technology tools, such as AI, into their instruction. Participants will also benefit from one-year access to online video resources and receive lifetime access to an extensive collection of digital resources that complement the conference.

To earn credit, participants will:

  • Complete a reflection paper to demonstrate the implementation of strategies learned.
  • Prepare a time log that documents the time spent for completing coursework requirements.
